Zircon is a mineral belonging to the group of nesosilicates. Its chemical name is zirconium silicate and its corresponding chemical formula is ZrSiO4. In recent years, zircon has attracted considerable attention as a high-technology material for industrial applications, because of its superior mechanical, thermal, electrical, chemical and optical properties. Due to these special properties, zircon is also widely used in glass industry which is called zircon brick.
The main factors that affect the formation of the kiln skin are as following:
1. The chemical composition of raw materials: The kiln skin is the product of the process formed from liquid phase into solid phase of the material. The more the aluminum and iron components is, the more the liquid phase, the easier the kiln skin formed.
zircon brick is one kind of refractory in which zircon is as the main crystal phase, it is an important firebrick in Zircon related refractory bricks. It is acid refractory with the advantages of high mechanical strength, high refractoriness under load, excellent thermal shock stability, good creep resistance and good corrosion resistance to glass liquid.
zircon brick is produced by sintered method which contains three steps, they are encastage, kiln-firing and kiln-out.
Encastage
zircon brick is a refractory brick which is made by natural zirconite and through sintering method. During the production process, not only zirconite is used as the main raw material, while appropriate sintering agent (the most commonly used is refractory clay) is added into the raw material. In order to improve the property of zircon brick, other components are added into the material such as bauxite, corundum or chromium oxide.
