The five winners this year Buy Fifa 14 Coins all made their discoveries in 2011.For most of the recipients, it is their first time winning. Theprize money was split evenly among the discoveries. The winnersare:
Terry Lovejoy of Australia received $7,500 (£4,750) for findingComet Lovejoy (official name: C/2011 W3). Discovered late in theyear, Comet Lovejoy was a sun-diver that performed a remarkablefeat when it plunged into the sun's outer atmosphere and emerged fromthe searing heat still intact.
Leonid Elenin of Russia won $7,500 for discovering CometElenin (P/2011 N1), which can be seen traveling over several nightsin August 2011 in the video below. Comet Elenin broke up in October.
Artyom Novichonok and Vladimir Gerke ofRussia received $3,750 (£2,380) each for spotting CometNovichonok-Gerke (P/2011 R3). Both are first-time winnersof the award. Along with Vitali Nevski, Novichonok discovereda comet in September that has the potential to become so bright itcould be visible during the day, perhaps making it the comet of the century, later this year.
Fred Bruenjes from the US got $7,500 for finding Comet Bruenjes(C/2012C2). It is also his first time winning the award.
