Runescape is going into their third batch of character name clean up. They may have a while before they get through a ton of the dormant accounts, considering this third batch has only filtered through the acccounts starting with I-M. That means there were two other batches with A-H. That’s a lot of Runescape players!
Jagex Studios announced back on July 7th that they would be cleaning out old account names. Members already receive one name change per month, along with Runescape’s new program which will allow players to exchange one bond for a name change within the one month period. Players will also be required to have a minimum 1000 level total in order to change their name. This will only be for the first 24 hours, then will be open to all other members. The incentive behind the name clearing will be to open up older names to newer players. Simple enough right?
The predicted name change was to take out 65 million old names to be used for newer Runescape players. The ways that a member could lose their account name would be that they have either been former members who haven’t logged into their accounts for 2 years or players who have never been a member but haven’t logged into their account in the past 6 months. Any accounts affected were sent an email, so don’t fret if you didn’t receive an email, you’re in the clear.
This is all fine and dandy considering Runescape’s master quest Plague’s End was just released a couple of weeks ago. If you’re extremely into the runescape scene, I’d maybe suggest jumping on this quest while it’s still fresh.
