Corey White’s return to the starting lineup was a good start for the New Orleans Saints secondary.
The third-year cornerback didn’t allow a single pass completion against the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday as the Saints held Minnesota to a net total of 188 passing yards in the Saints’ 20-9 victory. White http://www.officialnflsaintsjerseys.com/David-Hawthorne-Jersey had good coverage down the field the one time Minnesota took a shot deep against him.
The real test, however, will come Sunday night against a much more dynamic threat in the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys are more dangerous in every position group, from big-play receivers Dez Bryant and Terrance Williams to quarterback Tony Romo to running back DeMarco Murray to tight end Jason Witten.
And White knows he’ll get picked on. That’s how life is when you work across from No. 1 Saints cornerback Keenan Lewis, White said.
But White said he’s become used to being an underdog – which is why the former fifth-round pick out of Samford stayed positive even when the Saints signed free agent cornerback Champ Bailey and drafted cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste in the second round.
“I’ve been underestimated — in my opinion — all my life. I went to a small school. I grew up in a small neighborhood,” said White, according to The Advocate. "Of course I’m going to be thinking, ‘They don’t believe in me.’ …
“I’ve been working — not thinking of who’s ahead of me, thinking about who’s coming in. I don’t count numbers. I just play football.”
White began the season as the Saints' nickelback behind starter Patrick Robinson. But White was promoted in the middle of Week 2 as Robinson struggled. Bailey, meanwhile, was released on final cut-down http://www.officialnflsaintsjerseys.com/Jimmy-Graham-Jersey day. Jean-Baptiste has been inactive all three weeks, presumably because the Saints believe he still needs time to develop his raw talent.
White (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) is a bigger corner who played some safety in college. That’s why the Saints have used him inside a lot as a nickelback. But he does have decent enough speed to play outside. And he’s shown good ball skills.
