The Danish Football Association (DBU), one of the oldest football associations and a founding member of FIFA celebrated its 125th anniversary this weekend. FIFA President Blatter paid his tribute and travelled to Copenhagen to visit the DBU to help celebrate.
The Danish festivities were surrounded by the most important national football events. Just before the great party at the home of DBU, the Danish Cup final took place, with Aalborg lifting the trophy after beating FC Copenhagen 4-2. On Sunday the last round of the Danish Superliga was played, Aalborg taking that title as well to clinch an impressive double. Aalborg's victories made the President of the Danish FA, Jesper Moller, a happy man. He is the former President of Aalborg and of course was all smiles when the festivities commenced on Friday afternoon.
Representatives from other Member Associations from all over Europe came to honour the oldest FA on the European continent, and His Royal Highness Frederik Crown Prince of Denmark also offered his congratulations. FIFA President Blatter arrived and spoke to the guests in the home of DBU. He highlighted not only great footballers like the Laudrup brothers but also Katrine Pedersen who played 210 times for her country and commended her as “an inspiration in the women’s game”. The FIFA President praised the DBU in his speech as a role model for other football associations to aspire to.http:// www.fifa14mart.com
