Otis Greece Begins Escalator Installation as Part of Broad Thessaloniki Metro Station Project

The installation of 30 Otis escalators is now underway at three underground stations of the Thessaloniki Metro’s Main Line. Otis, which operates in Greece as C. Veremis-Otis S.A., is the world’s largest manufacturer and maintainer of people-moving products, including elevators, escalators and moving walkways, Elevator Design and is a part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Of the 30 escalators, 18 will be installed in Panepistimio station, six in Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos station, and six in Fleming station. The number of escalators required for each station depends on its underground levels.

Otis Greece, in cooperation with the contracting joint venture AEGEK – IMPREGILO – ANSALDO T.S.F – SELI – ANSALDOBREDA, is in charge of supplying and installing a total of 47 elevators and 142 escalators to serve the transportation needs of the 13 stations of the Thessaloniki Main Line. The escalators, each weighing 10 to 18 tons, are designed for use in public transportation settings and heavy traffic environments. They offer exceptional safety, reliability and service-friendly design. The escalators are reliable in outdoor conditions, embody high-quality technology, and employ energy-saving devices such as a start-stop system.

“We are honored to have been selected as a supplier for Thessaloniki Metro, and to be part of an infrastructure project that will transform daily city life,” said Nasos Bikas, managing director, Otis Greece and Cyprus. “We believe in the value of high technology and quality products and services, and we are happy to start the installation of the escalators in these underground stations.”

Dumb Waiter , a 9.6-kilometer line from Neos Sidirodromikos Stathmos to Nea Elvatia, will have 13 modern stations and 18 fully automatic and air- conditioned trains, as well as platform screen doors in all stations, ensuring the safest service for passengers.
